My first duty station in the Navy was with Patrol Squadron 40 (VP-40) which is traditionally a maritime anti-submarine warfare squadron. In 2009, at the height of the surge in Iraq our unit was assigned to provide real-time reconnaissance to Army units in southern Iraq. These photos are of my brothers-in-arms as we struggled to keep 30-year-old planes viable in a 130 degree desert with routine rocket attacks and epic sand storms.
Nowadays I find myself distinctly anti-war. I may even go so far as to say that philosophically and politically I regret everything. I regret signing up and I regret any mote of ambition to invade sovereign countries.
